Today was a very lazy day, topped off by the most lovely dinner in a neighbouring village.\u00a0\u00a0We slept in a bit longer this morning, and I stayed in bed reading while Steve showered and collected our breakfast from Katherine.<\/p>\n

Then, while Steve got comfy on the patio to read, I spent a couple of hours posting 3 days worth of photos on Facebook\u00a0while chatting with my niece, Tania, in Vancouver, through Google chat.\u00a0 The world has become such a small place.<\/p>\n

It was\u00a0warmer and sunnier today, so we headed out for a walk up the local mountain (hill) to the village cemetery to check out the 11th century Mont Saint Victor.\u00a0 It was a somewhat steep climb, but scenic along the way and worthwhile at the top.\u00a0 There is clear evidence of pride in this village cemetery – the grounds are so well tended and there are so many\u00a0flowers at gravesides.<\/p>\n

We all know the poem Flanders Fields<\/a>, and we all wear a poppy in November to remember those who fought and died for us, but the poppy symbol is much more understandable when you see them growing wild in almost every field you pass in France.<\/p>\n

We took another recommendation for dinner at La Grappe de Pernand in the village of Pernand-Vergelesse (2 villages over).\u00a0 Thank goodness for our GPS as, without a little satellite help, we probably wouldn\u2019t have found the restaurant OR found our way back!\u00a0 It was warm enough to eat on the terrace, which overlooked hectares of vineyards.\u00a0 Dinner was delicious, as was the local wine, and our host and hostess were charming.\u00a0 At 10:15, there was still quite a bit of light in the sky, but by 10:30, it was pretty well gone.\u00a0 We’ve decided that June is the best month to take vacations!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
