{"id":566,"date":"2013-07-05T19:46:49","date_gmt":"2013-07-05T23:46:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maureensmusings.ca\/?p=566"},"modified":"2015-03-15T17:54:44","modified_gmt":"2015-03-15T21:54:44","slug":"art-camp-haliburton-july-4-513","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maureensmusings.ca\/?p=566","title":{"rendered":"Art Camp &#8211; Haliburton: July 4-5\/13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Day 5 \u2013 last day of class!\u00a0 As the rest of my classmates spent a considerable amount of time making the tails of their \u201cbig birds\u201d fancy, I was able to catch up and finish at the same time as everyone else.\u00a0 I have some ideas to pretty up the tail of mine, and might do that when I get home, although it&#8217;s quite fine the way it is.\u00a0 I also still have to prime and paint Burton and will see if I can do that sometime next week in our bunky yard.\u00a0 In the meantime, here\u2019s a peak at a naked Burton.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maureensmusings.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/42BurtonNaked.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-568\" src=\"https:\/\/maureensmusings.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/42BurtonNaked-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"42BurtonNaked\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maureensmusings.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/42BurtonNaked-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/maureensmusings.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/42BurtonNaked-680x1024.jpg 680w, https:\/\/maureensmusings.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/42BurtonNaked.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(I think I have to adjust his neck &#8211; poor guy won&#8217;t be able to see any fish&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>Chuck had brought in a beautiful hummingbird attached to a \u201cflower\u201d that he had sculpted out of wire.\u00a0 Because we still had a full afternoon ahead of us, he agreed to teach us how to make one of our own.\u00a0 It was a very disappointing end to my week, as it was quite small and I wasn\u2019t able to sculpt even close to the right shape, despite trying twice.\u00a0 I\u2019m not a quitter but I did not finish my hummingbird.<\/p>\n<p>This week has been an eye-opening experience for me and has caused me to do some reflection, which I hardly ever do.\u00a0 When I signed up for this course, I had a general sense of what to expect and it never, ever occurred to me that I wouldn\u2019t excel.\u00a0 It\u2019s not that I didn\u2019t end up with results I\u2019m proud of, it\u2019s that I struggled to achieve those results and that\u2019s what\u2019s new to me.\u00a0 Although I\u2019m not an idea person, I can (usually) take someone else\u2019s creativity and fairly easily make it work for me.\u00a0 I\u2019m trying very hard to push my feelings of inadequacy (in this situation) into the background while I focus on my outstanding results.\u00a0 Also, between the anxiety and the amount of (unanticipated) physical effort required, I came back exhausted every evening.\u00a0 I\u2019m so glad this course was during our first week or I would have returned to work feeling like I\u2019d never had a vacation.\u00a0 (My expectations of next week are fun and relaxing.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been teaching myself how to play my Ukulele since I bought it 2+ months ago and I\u2019m doing okay.\u00a0 As we don\u2019t need any experience going into this next week, I have no doubt that I\u2019ll be able to keep pace.\u00a0 Sure hope I don\u2019t have to retract that statement&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>All in all, my week was very good \u2013 even though the pub tried to kill me!!!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, we attended the students\u2019 reception at the <a href=\"http:\/\/railsendgallery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rails End Gallery<\/a>, where we snacked on hors d\u2019oeuvres, sipped punch and appreciated the work on display by the various artists of the community, including some of the teachers.\u00a0 On Thursday, we participated in the \u201cwalk-around\u201d \u2013 an hour-long tour of the other classrooms to get an understanding of what was going on in other courses and a sense of what others were accomplishing.\u00a0 Following that, we were entertained by <a href=\"http:\/\/rickandsuzie.com\/wp\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rick Fines<\/a>, an internationally-known singer\/songwriter, who hails from Peterborough!
